Months of teamwork have brought the community garden expansion from a plan to a ready-to-use growing space.

The finishing touches are going on at the Dyment Recreation Hall and Park community garden, bringing a busy summer of work to a close. As fall slowly gives way to winter, the foundations for next year’s growing season are finally in place. The expanded garden is a welcome addition to the park, and the new beds are now ready for planting next spring.

Getting to this point has taken plenty of hands-on work. Volunteers and supporters have helped assemble the garden boxes and planters, bring in loads of soil, and fill each bed with layers of compostable materials and growing soil. With the beds filled and the outdoor work nearly complete, the garden is ready for a new season of community food production.

It’s rewarding to see the project come together after months of effort. The expanded space will give us more room to grow community crops next year, while creating more opportunities for people to work together, share practical skills and take part in local food production. We’re proud of what our volunteers and supporters have accomplished, and look forward to seeing the garden come to life again in the spring.

This work has been made possible through support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Capital Grants Program, the Art Borups Corners Living Lab and the Nuclear Waste Management Organization. We appreciate their contributions and the efforts of everyone who helped turn the expansion into a finished space. Together, these investments are helping strengthen our community garden and create more opportunities for local growing, shared work and community connection.
