Our Mission

We envision a Melgund Township where residents are engaged, creative, and connected; where community spaces are vibrant, welcoming, and actively used; and where social, cultural, and economic well-being are shared by all.

We see a future in which recreation services, arts and culture programs, community events, creative placemaking initiatives, and volunteer leadership contribute to healthy and resilient rural communities. We believe that access to recreation, cultural participation, lifelong learning, and opportunities for creative expression enriches community life and strengthens local identity.

Through collaboration, care, and creativity, Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture continues to grow as a catalyst for community development, cultural vitality, and civic engagement in Dyment, Borups Corners, and throughout Northwestern Ontario.

We envision communities where residents work together to shape their future, where public spaces encourage gathering and participation, and where recreation, arts, and culture are recognized as essential foundations of vibrant rural life.

Our Values

Community Participation and Leadership

Strong communities are built by the people who live in them. We believe residents should have meaningful opportunities to participate in local initiatives, contribute their skills and knowledge, and help shape community priorities. We value volunteerism, civic engagement, shared responsibility, and community-led action as essential components of healthy rural communities.

Recreation and Community Well-Being

We support recreation services, community activities, cultural experiences, and public events that bring people together, strengthen relationships, and enhance quality of life for residents of all ages.

Arts and culture are essential parts of thriving communities. We support artistic practice, creative expression, cultural learning, and opportunities for public participation in the arts. By fostering creativity and cultural engagement, we help celebrate local stories, strengthen community identity, and contribute to the cultural vitality of Northwestern Ontario.

Community Development and Placemaking

We believe vibrant communities are created when people actively participate in shaping the places where they live. Through placemaking projects, cultural initiatives, recreation programs, and collaborative partnerships, we help create welcoming community spaces that encourage participation, foster pride, and strengthen local connections.

Inclusion, Accessibility and Belonging

Everyone should have opportunities to participate in community life. We are committed to creating welcoming, respectful, and accessible environments where people feel valued and encouraged to contribute. We strive to reduce barriers to participation and support a culture of inclusion across generations, backgrounds, and experiences.

Collaboration and Partnership

Meaningful and lasting change happens through collaboration. We work with residents, artists, community organizations, businesses, educational institutions, public agencies, and local governments to develop programs and initiatives that reflect shared goals and community priorities. Partnerships strengthen our collective capacity to serve and support rural communities.

Stewardship of Community and Place

We value the landscapes, community spaces, cultural assets, and local heritage that contribute to the character of Melgund Township and Northwestern Ontario. We are committed to responsible stewardship and to supporting initiatives that enhance the long-term social, cultural, environmental, and economic well-being of our communities.

Learning, Innovation and Lifelong Growth

Communities thrive when people have opportunities to learn, share knowledge, and develop new skills.
