One Week Left: Help Inform Land Use and Diet Studies

Active public participation will play an important role as the Deep Geological Repository for Canada’s Used Nuclear Fuel Project moves into the federal regulatory process.

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is inviting residents, land users and others with knowledge of the project area to participate in a diet and land-use survey. The information gathered will help inform environmental and regulatory studies by documenting how people use the land, water and natural resources.

For residents of Melgund Township, participation is particularly important. As one of the two closest communities to the proposed DGR site, the township is expected to experience significant impacts from the project. Making sure the regulatory record accurately reflects how people use the area today — including traditional activities, recreation, harvesting, hunting, fishing, gathering and other land uses — is an important part of the process.

There is now just one week left to participate. The survey closes September 7, 2026.

If you live in, work in or regularly use the area, consider taking the survey and sharing your knowledge. The more complete the information gathered, the better it can inform the environmental studies, regulatory review and future decision-making.
