Volunteers from Art Borups Corners and Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture joined community members to help restore and beautify the Dyment Recreation Hall park and greenspace.

Community volunteers spent the weekend helping beautify the grounds of the Dyment Recreation Hall and complex through flower planting and community garden improvements.

Among those lending a hand were Terri Bell of Art Borups Corners and Karen Daignault, curator of the Dyment Museum and Chair of Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture. Together with other volunteers, they planted flowers, prepared trees for planting, and installed hanging planters throughout the recreation complex.

The work is part of an ongoing effort to revitalize the Dyment Recreation Hall park and greenspace. Local residents remember when the township park featured beautiful gardens, and volunteers from Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture have been working toward restoring that tradition with support from community partners including the Local Services Board of Melgund and Art Borups Corners.

The volunteer-led project is helping create a more welcoming and vibrant community space for residents and visitors while enhancing one of Melgund Township’s most important gathering places.

The next major event at the recreation complex will be the popular Canada Day Festival on July 1. The annual celebration will feature food, live music, a silent auction, and vendors and artists from across Northwestern Ontario, bringing residents and visitors together for a full day of community festivities.

A sincere thank you to all of the volunteers who contributed their time, energy, and creativity to this exciting community placemaking project. Strong parks, recreation spaces, and community programming do not happen by accident—they are built through the dedication of residents who care about creating welcoming places for others to gather, connect, and participate.

Every flower planted, garden bed prepared, and improvement made helps strengthen the recreation complex as a hub for community life while supporting future events, programs, and opportunities for residents of all ages. Special thanks go to the Local Services Board of Melgund for supporting this summer’s recreation projects and programs.
