This year’s community garden program is into its late-season work now, with growers at Art Borups Corners and MRAC gathering what’s ready from the raised planters after months of planting, watering and keeping things going through what was a very hot and dry summer.

For everyone involved, much of the season has been practical work: looking after the beds, keeping track of how crops developed and seeing which vegetables could handle the growing conditions. The garden has also given us a chance to try different approaches and pay attention to what worked from one crop to the next.

The growing work always runs alongside photography and art projects, giving us another way to keep track of what was happening in the garden. It’s also a way for our program to document changes along the way as each crop reaches maturity.

Now the green peppers are ready, and attention is turning to the last work in the garden and getting ready for next year.
