The Government of Canada is inviting qualified professionals to join the Impact Assessment Roster, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to decisions that protect the environment, uphold Indigenous rights, and serve the public interest.
Are you an expert in health, social sciences, economics, environmental science, or another technical field related to impact assessment? Do you have experience collaborating with Indigenous communities in ways that respect their rights, knowledge systems, and self-determination? If so, your expertise could help shape the future of major projects across Canada.
What the Roster Is
The Impact Assessment Roster is a list of eligible candidates who may be selected as chairpersons or members of independent review panels. These panels are appointed by the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) to conduct assessments in line with the Impact Assessment Act, and are responsible for:
- Receiving and analyzing project information and documentation
- Leading public and Indigenous engagement processes
- Holding hearings and preparing assessment reports with recommendations
- Supporting integrated reviews under the Canadian Energy Regulator Act or the Nuclear Safety and Control Act, if applicable
Members may also be cross-appointed as temporary commissioners for the Canada Energy Regulator or Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission to support integrated assessments.
Who They’re Looking For
IAAC seeks individuals with diverse abilities, expertise, and lived experiences, particularly those who can bring:
- Knowledge in health, social sciences, economics, environmental science, or a related technical field
- Regional perspectives, especially from the Prairies or Atlantic Canada
- Experience working with Indigenous Peoples and an openness to incorporating Indigenous Knowledge and worldviews
- Experience in the energy, oil and gas, or nuclear sectors, particularly with major infrastructure projects
Even if you’re unsure whether you meet all criteria, candidates are encouraged to apply. Experience could include professional training, education, or lived experience.
Why It Matters
Serving on a review panel allows you to make impactful decisions based on science, evidence, and Indigenous knowledge, while balancing the interests and rights of diverse stakeholders.
