Supporting Dyment Recreation Hall Park as a Space for Activity, Memory, and Community Connection
Dyment Recreation Park in Melgund Township, Northwestern Ontario continues to grow as a vibrant community space, with recent hands-on work focused on building planters and planting apple trees. These efforts contribute to the ongoing development of the park as a place for outdoor activity, gathering, and shared community use.
The first apple trees for the new spaces were planted from a batch donated by the Art Borups Corners Society and their land lab program, supporting the expansion of the community garden and enhancing the surrounding park environment. This work reflects a long-term vision of strengthening local recreation spaces through practical, community-driven improvements.
Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture is proud to support the Local Services Board of Melgund and its beautiful park, working alongside partners including the Art Borups Corners Society to help build and sustain meaningful recreation opportunities across the township. Through this collaboration, the park continues to evolve as an accessible space for outdoor programming, creativity, and connection.
A meaningful moment in the day was the planting of the first apple tree in remembrance of the late Dr. Leah Nicholson, PhD, whose dedication to community and outdoor recreation continues to be reflected in projects like this. The planting stands as a lasting tribute within a space that brings people together.
As the community garden program expands and new elements are added, Dyment Recreation Park is becoming an increasingly important hub for recreation, learning, and environmental engagement. Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen community spaces through hands-on placemaking and active living.
