The new library, storytelling and digital literacy space is coming along nicely!
New Storytelling and Community Library Space at the Dyment Recreation Hall
There’s a quiet kind of excitement building in the lower level of the Dyment Recreation Hall. Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture is in the process of setting up a warm, welcoming digital literacy, storytelling, and community library space—one designed for curiosity, conversation, and shared learning. What was once an underused area is becoming a place where stories are gathered, skills are built, and neighbours linger a little longer.
This new space builds on key investments from the Ontario Arts Council and the Government of Ontario made during the summer and fall of 2025 with the Art Borups Corners arts collective. Those supports have made it possible to think beyond short-term programming and instead create something lasting: a flexible, accessible hub that supports digital learning while honouring the long tradition of oral storytelling in the community.
We’re deeply grateful to the Local Services Board of Melgund for making this space available and supporting its transformation. Their commitment has helped turn a good idea into a tangible, shared resource that the whole community can take pride in.
As shelves fill, screens light up, and stories start to circulate, we’re looking ahead to many lively and thoughtful weekends with our storytelling club—learning together, telling stories together, and building something meaningful, one gathering at a time.
