Volunteers expanding community garden with apple trees and flower beds
The community gardens at Dyment Recreation Park are putting on quite a show this summer. Walk by on Monday and Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings and you’ll find volunteers with dirt under their fingernails, quietly expanding the existing beds and tending to the planters that line the recreation hall. It’s the kind of work that doesn’t make headlines but absolutely makes a place feel loved.
There’s a practical, long-haul side to all this beauty, too. The gardening program has been busy putting in new apple trees this year. Between the expanded beds, the well-tended planters, and those young saplings settling into the soil, Melgund Township’s park is shaping up to be both prettier and a little more prepared for the future than it was last season.
