Where Dignity Grows
Stories of Self, Others, Nature and Community

At its heart, dignity is the belief that every person has inherent worth. It is a value that guides us to build a more compassionate world, not just for ourselves, but for all those around us. These pages hold short, easy-to-read stories that we hope will be a joyful and thoughtful exploration of that idea. Each one is a simple reminder that dignity and kindness are not just abstract concepts; they are choices we can make every day.

Each of the stories in this collection was written to reflect one of the five guiding principles of global dignity: the right to a dignified life; the opportunity to fulfill one’s potential; the freedom to make personal decisions; the belief that dignity should guide all actions; and the understanding that our own dignity is always linked to the dignity of others.

A Voice After Hours

What if your most private fears became the night’s biggest broadcast? By day, Arthur is just a shy teenager, tripping over his words and hiding behind books. But after midnight, he transforms into “The Night Owl,” a confident radio host whose smooth voice and quirky playlists captivate listeners across the city. The radio booth is his sanctuary, a place where he can finally be his true, unjudged self.

But one fateful night, a forgotten switch changes everything. Arthur accidentally broadcasts his deepest anxieties and most vulnerable thoughts to anyone still listening, shattering the illusion of his hidden world. Suddenly, his carefully guarded secrets are out there, forcing him to face the very fears he tried so hard to hide.

Supporting Storytelling and the Arts

The Art Borups Corners Storytelling Club library celebrates the incredible creativity and talent of our local Northern Ontario community. This special interdisciplinary arts and capacity building program ran in the summer of 2025, supported by the Ontario Arts Council Multi and Inter-Arts Projects program, The Arts Incubator Winnipeg Hub, Ottawa-based Global Dignity Canada, and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design Creative Entrepreneurship Program. We extend heartfelt thanks to the Local Services Board of Melgund and the many community members, artists, and creators who made this program possible.
