Share Your Knowledge of Local Land Use and Food Consumption

Active public participation will play a key role as the Deep Geological Repository for Canada’s Used Nuclear Fuel Project moves into the federal regulatory process.

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is inviting residents, land users and others with knowledge of the project area to participate in a diet and land-use survey. The information gathered will help inform environmental and regulatory studies by documenting how people use the land, water and natural resources.

For residents of Melgund Township, participation is particularly important. As the two closest communities in proximity to the DGR program, Melgund Township is expected to experience the greatest impacts. It’s important to ensure that the regulatory process has accurate, locally informed information about traditional activities, recreation, harvesting, hunting, fishing, gathering and other land uses will help create a more complete record of how the area is used today.

The more comprehensive the information, the better it can inform the regulatory review and future decision-making process.
