Weekly Unfinished Tales and Short Stories from our Dataset
This daily collection presents a series of short stories generated from our ongoing creative arts, storytelling, and AI research program. Initiated primarily for fun and to support essential digital literacy skills, these narrative experiments allow us to explore the boundaries of what we can do with emerging technologies. By blending distinct genres—ranging from gritty dystopian thrillers involving high-stakes surveillance to introspective contemporary fantasies set within a magical coffee shop—we are testing the versatility of algorithmic generation in capturing human nuance and atmospheric depth.
These stories serve the project’s broader goals in AI-Assisted Storytelling and Scriptwriting by providing tangible case studies for analyzing plot structures and character voice. Furthermore, they function as critical tools for Talent Development, helping creative professionals understand the training needs required to manage immersive technologies and interdisciplinary approaches. It is important to note that this work was entirely experimental, designed to rigorously test the capabilities of current models in producing coherent, emotionally resonant narratives across vastly different stylistic frameworks.

Grey skies pressed down, mirroring the spirits of those who shuffled along the gritted pathways, heads bowed against the biting cold and the unseen weight of the Directorate’s gaze.

The familiar warmth and the quiet, perceptive presence of its owner, Cathy, offer a momentary reprieve from his internal turmoil, hinting at deeper, unspoken truths beneath the surface of the mundane.
Design Notes and Applied Research
The inclusion of Dystopian Thriller, Contemporary Fantasy, and Magical Realism in today’s collection serves as a practical application of the program’s focus on skills development within complex narrative structures. By utilizing Surreal and Epistolary formats, the cohort examined how traditional storytelling mechanics adapt to the demands of the digital transformation of the arts. This diverse range of subject matter provided a rigorous framework for analyzing how genre constraints can be expanded through modern creative practices.
This phase of the “Storytelling and the Arts” program operated as an engaging experiment in integrating artificial intelligence and advanced research approaches into the writing process. Participants found the project to be a rewarding exercise that balanced technical learning with the enjoyment of creative exploration. The resulting body of work demonstrates the potential for digital tools to enhance narrative depth while fostering a deeper understanding of evolving artistic methodologies.
About the Project
The Unfinished Tales and Short Stories collection was an interdisciplinary arts and narrative storytelling experiment in 2025. It was part of a creative arts and participatory research project by The Arts Incubator Winnipeg and the Art Borups Corners collectives. It focuses on two key areas: AI-Assisted Storytelling and Scriptwriting, exploring AI tools for generating ideas, plot structures, and story arcs; and Talent Development and Training, studying digital skills, literacy and training needs for creative professionals by experimenting with AI and immersive technologies to inform future projects. Funding and support were generously provided by the Ontario Arts Council Multi and Inter-Arts Projects program and the Government of Ontario.
