The Simulation Is Not Your Life

"There is a massive difference between genuine interest and a psychological compulsion."

Learning the art of disconnecting from the algorithms to find your genuine voice.

Are you tired of letting a mathematical equation decide how your morning feels?

The For You page is a liar. It doesn't actually show you what you like; it shows you what you can't look away from. There is a massive difference between genuine interest and a psychological compulsion. When you spend your entire Saturday morning scrolling, you aren't relaxing. You are putting your brain through a high-intensity interval training session of emotional triggers. No wonder you feel exhausted before you even get out of bed.

Disconnecting from the algorithms is how you take your agency back. We have been conditioned to think that staying updated is a moral obligation, but it is really just a recipe for burnout. Your nervous system is redlining because it thinks it needs to have an opinion on every micro-drama and global crisis happening simultaneously. You weren't built for this level of connectivity. You were built to know about fifty people in a village and maybe a couple of hills in the distance.

Leave the phone on the kitchen counter and go for a walk. Don't take a podcast with you. Don't even take music. Just listen to the actual sounds of your neighborhood. It is going to feel boring at first. Lean into that boredom. Boredom is the space where your actual personality starts to grow back. It is where you start to remember what you actually care about when no one is watching and no one is optimizing your behavior for ad revenue.

You deserve a life that isn't curated by a software engineer in Northern California. Real life is messy, unpolished, and doesn't come with a skip button. That is what makes it valuable. When you are outside, breathing real air and seeing real people, you realize that the digital noise is just a simulation. Step out of the simulation for a while. Your sanity will thank you for the quiet.
