Your Attention Is Being Harvested
"You are currently being overstimulated by a machine that treats your attention like a harvestable resource."
How to stop disconnecting from yourself by disconnecting from the algorithms today.
When was the last time you had a thought that wasn't a reaction to a screen?
The algorithm is doing its job a little too well lately. It knows what makes you angry, what makes you insecure, and exactly what kind of video will keep you scrolling until 2:00 AM. But here is the thing: your brain wasn't designed to process a thousand different lives and opinions every single hour. You are currently being overstimulated by a machine that treats your attention like a harvestable resource. It is time to stop being the crop and start being the farmer.
Disconnecting from the algorithms isn't some granola aesthetic; it is a survival tactic for your focus. When you are plugged in, you are basically outsourcing your consciousness to a server in a cooling center somewhere. You lose the ability to sit with your own silence because the feed has taught you that silence is a void that needs to be filled with content. That is why you feel that weird itch in your hand when you are waiting in line at the grocery store. You have forgotten how to just exist in a physical space without a digital filter.
Go outside. This is not about a pretty photo for your story. It is about recalibrating your nervous system. Walk until you can't hear the hum of your electronics in your head anymore. Pay attention to the way the air feels against your skin and the way the pavement looks. These are data points the algorithm can't track. This is raw reality, and it is the only place where you can actually find a sense of peace that doesn't expire when the next video loads.
You might feel a bit of FOMO at first. That is just the withdrawal. Your brain is used to the high-speed dopamine hits, and reality feels slow by comparison. Stay in that slowness. That is where your resilience lives. You aren't missing out on anything important by being offline for a few hours. The world will still be loud when you get back, but you will be a lot harder to rattle once you have remembered what it feels like to breathe on your own terms.
